The phrase 'Gerrarahere' has fetched Comedian and actor Francis Odega
milloins of naira plus more recognition. 'Gerrarahere'(Get out of here)’ is no
doubt one of the most famous phrases of 2015 in Nigeria. And it was originally
uttered by no other person than comic actor, Francis Odega.
Little did he know that the film, which he acted years back will
fetch him fortune as 'Gerrarahere' which he uttered in the movie is now a selling
point for him. He acted as an American returnee who adopted a fake accent and
made sure everyone knew he was a Yankee-returnee.
The phrase became a world
expression when Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent shared the video on Instagram.
In an exclusive chat with E24-7 MAGAZINE, he spoke on how he has
been able to manage his fame. According to him, “In those days, I could just go
out and buy anything I wanted on the streets, but it’s not possible anymore.
If God says something is
your way, it will definitely happen. This was a movie that was shot years ago,
but it didn’t become so viral until a friend of mine posted it on the internet.
I’m enjoying the attention it’s getting me, and there are a lot of things in
the pipeline for me right now.”
With the success of the video-skit, it wouldn’t be surprising if
it has actually put pressure on Odega to out-do himself, but he says it hasn’t.
In his words, “There’s no pressure on me. I just keep doing my thing and being
professional. Don’t forget that I’ve been doing this for a while now, so it’s
not today.”
But how did he feel when someone like international rapper and
businessman, Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent shared the video on Instagram. “Naturally,
I felt excited. It is nice knowing that people appreciate your work.”
