UPROAR AS FED GOV BANS IMPORTATION OF 'I BETTER PASS MY NEIGHBOUR' GENERATOR
The concerned citizen has been expressing their dissatisfaction over the government decision on keeping out of circulation the cheapest and common generator called 'I better pass my neighbour'.
An artisan Mr Tega Chalse said "we no dey get light and the small one wey dem dey bring no dey tey at all, this generator cheap even we dey see the second hand buy and to fuel am no be wahala"
Due to the epileptic power supply in certain parts of the country, a lawmaker has also said that the present government have not contributed funds towards the development of the power sector
The federal government banned the importation the popular generator among the middle class “I pass my neighbour yesterday Nov 18”
The Customs spokesman, Madugu Sanni Jubrin, disclosed yesterday on Wednesday, November 18.
Jubrin, who controls the federation operations unit Zone A in Lagos, said: “The smaller generators have been banned by the federal government because it is causing air pollution and destruction of our lungs and breathing system".
He explaineed further that “That is why they have banned it but people are still interested in smuggling them in, that is why we intercepted them. If you go to the market, you still see them because people have imported them before the ban. So it is the leftover they had before the ban that they are selling because the law did not backdate the ban and it is not an absolute prohibition. It is prohibition by trade which means you cannot bring it in large quantity and sell to the public. That is the type of prohibition we have on this but if you buy one piece, Customs will not seize it”.
Another concerned Nigerian responded that "the decision to ban it is good but the best action for the Buhari led administration is provide stable power supply as it was the major campaign key during electon"
