THE JOURNEY OF LIFE

Life is a journey; We are all at different stages in the journey of life. When we think we have come to the end of a journey, it opens us to the beginning of another journey. By the time this year is over it will open us to the beginning of another journey of 365 days. If you are eager to get married, as soon as you succeed in doing what you are presently involved in, you’ll suddenly realise that it’s the beginning of another journey that will take you the rest of your life. Getting an admission into school is the beginning of an academic journey that will be a major factor in life.

Having known this we must understand that we can only go as far in the journey of life depending on how much of God’s help is available for us. Where God’s helps stops is where the journey ends. If this journey of life is to be filled with greatness and fulfilments, then we must have God’s help at every stage of the journey. The help at one stage of the journey is not enough for the next stage of the journey. This is why we have to stay in touch with God who is our ultimate source of help (Psalm 121:1-2). I want to deliberately encourage you to start asking God for help for the year ahead of us. In God, is unlimited and uncensored help. He is our ever present help (Psalm 46:1-11).

The demands of each stage of the journey of life seem to be different from the previous one. The demand of getting an admission into school is not the same as staying in school and getting the required grades in school. The demands of getting a job are completely different from keeping the job. Getting pregnant and having a baby takes the journey of nine months. But the demands to raise up the child to become responsible is far different, this will take many years.

The strength and experience of a particular journey will be grossly inadequate for the next journey. Human strength and experience have failed so many people in the past and it will still fail many people. If we are going to stay strong and relevant in the journey of life we must keep on renewing our strength. We’ll only go as far as our strength can carry us. The strength that will not fail is the strength supplied by the Spirit of God in our inner man. As we learn to wait on the Lord in dependence our strength is renewed day by day. Though our outward man perish, the inward man can be renewed on a daily basis. (Isa. 40:31, Ephesians 3:16)

Every stage of the journey of life will require fresh wisdom and idea to make a success of it. God wants to take us higher and better than we have experienced before, this is the reason why we cannot depend on the experience of yesterday. There is newness in God which we can tap into on a continuous basis. Divine principles and promises do not change but God’s approach and direction may change per time. Don’t ever lean on your own understanding. In every journey of life acknowledge God and he will direct your path.

We are all complete strangers in the journey of life. David said “I am a stranger in the earth...“Ps 119:19.  Without divine direction we’ll miss our way in the journey of life. If you travel to a city for the first time, missing the road will cost you so much. The best companion in such journeys is to have someone to show us the way. To a very great extent our individual destinies are places that no one had gone before. What God wants to do in you are things that eyes have not seen before, nor ears heard before. We’ll therefore need more than a human guide to get us to where we are going in life. We’ll need more of God to locate our way in the journey of life. In the journey of life the most important factor is not speed but rather direction. If you travel fast on a wrong path it will still take you to the wrong destination. The joy of getting there early would have gone once you realise it was a wrong destination. Speed only becomes relevant when we are on the right route. Before we take off on any journey of life we must therefore ascertain if we are on the right route or a wrong one. Getting married for example is an exciting moment for anyone, but it may end up as a miserable adventure if it’s consummated with the wrong person. Before starting that journey it must be cleared from God who a man is beyond the size of his chest and the width of his moustache. The size of the hips does not make a responsible wife. Whatever journey of life you are embarking on take out time to seek God’s direction. He knows the end from the beginning.

My prayer for you is that your journey in life will be great and every divine resource you require will be available for you. I will see you in your destiny.
