GNI COMMISERATES WITH ITOKU COLLAPSED MARKET VICTIMS, CALLS FOR PROBE

The Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the last election Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) has expressed shock over the collapse of newly constructed Itoku market in Abeokuta where unspecified numbers of lives were lost and many sustained various degree of injury.

He commiserated with the families of the victims of those who lost their lives in the avoidable accident and prayed for a quick recovery of the injured.
Isiaka in a statement he personally signed said, "It is with deep pain and heavy heart that I am commiserating with the injured, the families of the dead, the good people of Ogun State and the Government of Ogun State. I pray to the almighty Allah to replenish the state of health of the injured with quick recovery and to give the families of the dead ones the fortitude to bear the regrettable loss".

He, however, called for a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse and noted that such incident is rare in a government project. According to him, "I have heard about some private projects suffering this type of unfortunate fate but with capacity to put in place a control, monitoring mechanism and measures in the custody of civil service professionals; it is rare in government project from tax payers’ money”.

"It is in line with the above that I am enjoining the government not to overlook any complicity around a possible compromise in the standard of the construction of this project (both by the contractor and the supervising authority) which to me cannot be in conformity with the much flaunted “Ogun Standard”.
"Government should also extend such measures to other projects under construction and even the completed ones as lives of Ogun residents are too precious to be lost in this avoidable manner.
"Once again, I commiserate with the injured, the families of the dead.
